working for the weekend paid off

Busy week at work and home sure made for a nice weekend. I still ripped down all of the old dryall in the garage so we can get ready for new insulation, electrical, walls and drywall. Ok! Ripping down drywall stinks big time. Totally stinks!

Ok. Now for the fun. We started of Friday night with
the kitty parade. Good times. Madee rode her bike and pulled Ella in the Burley. They had a blast. Then, we headed over to where the parade ended at Chapin's Park. There was lots of games and events for the girls to enjoy. Face painting, bean bag toss, mini golf and a few others. Hot dogs were being eaten by all. Good stuff. Lots of fun. We headed for home after that for some rest time. After we all rested for a couple of hours and cleaned up we headed over to the South end of town to check out the fireworks. It's a nice area where most everyone sits too. It is in the ball diamond. There are only three exits to the diamond and that leaves the entire outfield for the kids to play safely in. Don't really have to watch them too close either. Good times. Fireworks were good too.

I even got two mini rides in. Was able to blow off just enough steam to relax but not too much. that left me fresh for that drywall project.

It was a nice spending some quality time just hanging with my three favorite women. Not a rushed weekend at all and I loved it.

Oh yeah. Does riding your bike ever make you pucker? Me neither but apparently in the last photo I must have that problem. My mouth has a puckered look to it. So does the bill of my Walz cap. Hmm. What's up with that?

Sometimes I feel like the house project we are in the middle of will never end. Just like this road I traveled today on my way home. Felt like it would never end.

I hope the weekend feels the same. I could use a nice one that feels like it will last forever.

Weekend happpenings....

When riding out at the camp PLEASE be aware of that some ridings have been know to dig for grubs inside of downed trees. G-Ted found his lunch while the rest of us lost our lunch.



Had a nice time this weekend. took a break from working on the house. Went to the Janesville fireworks display Friday night. Wow! They were awesome. We were a bit close though and that had me concerned but everything went off without any problems. Here is a pic of the awesome fireball. those always make me think of the song "The Heat is On." Good times. The girls really enjoyed them too.

Made it out to the South Side of Camp Ingawanis Saturday morning with G-Ted and Bidwell. Super Saul met us at the final curve leading up to the south entrance. He missed the Dirty Hundy folks so headed to Janesville to check on his wife who was running in the 5k. Not sure how she did but I will have to find out. Good seeing you Ron and thanks for coming out.

We rolled though the south side for one lap with Saul. The second lap was just G-Ted, Bidwell and myself. Good times as always. Rode three different bikes in all. Most of you probably think we would have looked nuts out there swapping bottles and adjusting saddles. We are nuts, but, we had a heck of a good time. I am testing a bike for 29inches and really love it for the technical stuff. It makes the singletrack feel like a BMX course. Good times......

Sunday I was able to sneak out for my 20 mile loop of gravel around my house and was please with my effort. I haven't been riding a lot of gravel lately so I feel I have lost a bit of that endurance. Tight singletrack doesn't require as much endurance for me.

I am writing this Monday morning while thinking about how much I do not want to go to work while my girls are watching Arthur on PBS. Great cartoon. Wish I could watch them all day......

The leadville crew will be heading out this week so I want to wish them all a safe and happy trip. Have a great time and remember to ride safely in the mountains.

South Side

The south side of the boy scout camp Ingawanis is ready. There are many new trails that just need riding on and they will be perfect. We still need to stop using some of the old trails that lead to water and get some sings up and it will be ready for those folks that get lost easily. Like me. There are some unique sections of trail that I don't ever remember seeing and I think many people will love it. Good stuff. For now though until the bridge is built you will have to sign in at the main gate and then ride over to the south side. Not a far commute though.

Check it out. Don't forget to sign in and pay your $2 or $11 for the year that way you fall under the camps insurance. Well worth the money.

more house progress......

Won't be long and the siding will be complete. Then we will be starting to convert the old garage into living space. I even get a sports room. It will house my rollers and a climber type bike. The old bike barn will be getting a face lift too. It will be sided to match the house.

Busy days of late......

Been busy working on the house a lot lately. Coming along nicely though. I have been getting some good rides in at least. Made it to Cedar Bend a couple of times. Some bridge damage though. Hopefully they can fit it. Made it to the South side of the Camp a few times too. That trail is really developing into something sweet again. Casey and Cuz have been cutting some tree out for the final touches. Many others have been helping too. Thanks!!

Look closely at the first picture. Between the frame tubes in the grass there is a duck. Never left this spot the whole time I was there. Wonder if he is doing ok?

Just pics today

simplicity...

Lately life has been so busy. Mostly due to my own doing. I like to calm down by riding my bike....something much simpler. Like this single speed mountain bike. Nothing to think about but pedaling. No options to shift. Not much chance for a mechanical. Just me and my legs going round and round. Some days I could almost fall asleep riding because for me, it's the most relaxing thing to do.

Whether you have gears or not, get out and ride. Enjoy the simplicity of just riding you bike. If you don't worry about getting in a certain amount of miles but rather just enjoying the miles you do ride........for me, it's much more fulfilling.

Kitty's are doing well.

We only have three left but they are doing well. Eyes are starting to open a little. Shouldn't be long before they are out playing around. That will be fun for the girls.

Here are a few more pics of the project. Coming along nicely now but the bad news is I have to redo the roof on the entire house. Good news here is the new color looks amazing!

Gotta love this weather.........

Made it out for a couple of rides this week. Saturday was a trip from my place to West Union. Nice trip and only got a little wet.

Made it out for a little ride around Sweets Marsh Tuesday night. It's nice to see the water levels down again. I was not the only one out enjoying nature. Some folks from Denver Iowa were out in their kayaks. We chatted for a bit and went our separate ways. I need a kayak cause canoing on my own is no fun.

Well, our stray cat that won't leave that has now become our permanent cat has now given birth to five little sweeties.

Mom and babies all seem to be doing well. We even have a handfull of very kind building contractors that have been keeping a close eye on them while working on our house.

finally taking shape

Well, after a long winter of waiting this spring has brought progress in our house addition. As you can see we are adding a new garage. The existing garage will be converted to living space. I get a room just for me for riding rollers and the treadmill and climber will also be house in my new area. We will be having a new master bedroom with walk-in closet. There will be two rooms for storage as well which is greatly needed since we are pack rats. Two hallways will be added. One to the laundry/bathroom and one to the new garage. Should be done by the end of July.

Sometimes the color of the sky just leaves me speechless. Tonight was one of those nights. The image is facing West and slightly North. Of course the picture just doesn't do it justice. Close though.

darn internet

Well, it's been a few days without internet and it's driving me crazy. I have www now but still no email. I bet there will be over 150 emails when it comes back up and that doesn't count the junk.

So, the crank arm blog. Yes, Jackal won. I reached the 7 mile from home mark the other night and noticed something loose coming from the drive side of my bike. Then, the whole crankarm came off.....still clipped in though. Made a quick stop and decided that I had better head home. Put the crank arm back on and began the journey home pedaling with only my left foot. Thank goodness for clipless pedals. About every three or four pedal stokes a slight tap on the right crankarm was needed (with my right foot heel) to keep it from falling off. I was able to make the trip home with only having to walk up the steeper climbs. The ride home was double the time of the ride out.

Forgot to mention that while limping home I thought, "What if the other arm is loose? Crap!" So, I took a quick peek. Oh my! There's not even a bolt there! Then it hit me, I took the bolts out to put on my temporary TT bike. Hmm...now what? Luckily the left arm never came loose.
I did learn a valuable lesson in the midst of my worry.......never borrow bolts for another bike.

New car.

Finally broke down and bought a slightly used 2008 Saturn Aura. Nice too. Made them kill a cow just to get the seats covered.

Too nice for me to drive. I will keep driving the clunkers and let my sweetie ride in style.....after I get the mud flaps on. Gravel will kill the paint.

this picture shouldn't require too much explaining. The little pain in the rump is still warm. That's right folks.....I killed this little guy with on what could have been strike three but I connected and put him over the fence. Bases weren't loaded but who cares. One hit put him out of my misery.

So, ever feeling like flying round my house scaring the wife.....might want to think twice about it. I am a tennis pro!

This was our second bat tonight and fourth one in two weeks. I think we found where they have been coming in and I have installed an electric fence. 220 volt of course. No, I haven't taken a leak on it yet and don't plan to.

The upside of having bats in you house? No misquito's!

rub a dub dub....fun in the tub.

Finally have been getting some time to enjoy Pam's most recent purchase from a craig's list ad. She found this little two person hot tub a few weeks ago for $300. It's almost new too. Works very good and is very relaxing. Good therapy for a long day at the office, or after a good bike ride.

I couldn't help but think of those folks who are trying to get away from water due to the rising creeks, rivers and lakes. I really am keeping those folks in my prayers. And especially the folks that are still dealing with the change in their lives since the tornados. I feel so thankful for not having suffered any damage. Here I am should deep in water in this nice hot tub and there are folks just miles away that have should deep water in the living rooms and that's not in a tub either.

Here is a picture of the southern part of Sweets Marsh. It's across the road from a private owned park where I am a member. It's called tots Lake and it is owned by the Wapsie Sportsmans Club. It has a couple good fishing holes that my little ladies and I frequent a quite often. At this time it appears we won't be fishing for a while. Could be worse though.
